Augusta Premier Kickball Official Rulebook

Version 1.0

Our league was created by players, for players, with a focus on organization, transparency, sportsmanship, competition, and community.

These rules exist to create a consistent playing experience, promote player safety, and ensure fair competition throughout the season.

All players, captains, and league officials are expected to know and follow these rules.

Section 1: League Philosophy

Spirit of the Rule

Augusta Premier Kickball recognizes that no rulebook can account for every possible situation.

Any situation not specifically addressed within these rules shall be resolved according to the spirit of fair play, sportsmanship, player safety, and the best interests of the league.

The goal of every ruling should be to preserve the integrity of competition while maintaining the fun, welcoming, and community-focused environment that defines Augusta Premier Kickball.

Core Principles

  • Respect: Respect teammates, opponents, officials, spectators, and league staff at all times.
  • Sportsmanship: Competition is encouraged. Poor sportsmanship is not.
  • Fun: While winning is important, creating a positive player experience is the league’s primary objective.
  • Community: We’re building more than a kickball league. We’re building friendships, connections, and a community players look forward to being part of every season.

Section 2: League Governance

Captain’s Council

Augusta Premier Kickball utilizes a Captain’s Council to assist with league governance and dispute resolution.

The Captain’s Council consists of one representative from each team.
The Captain’s Council may review:

  • Rule disputes
  • Sportsmanship concerns
  • Player discipline matters
  • Rule modification proposals
  • League improvement recommendations

The League Commissioner serves as facilitator and may vote only in the event of a tie.

Council decisions are final.

Section 3: Team Requirements

Team Rosters

  • Maximum roster size: 18 players
  • Recommended roster size: 12–15 players
  • All players must complete registration and waiver requirements

Minimum Players

  • A team must have at least nine (9) players to begin a game (4 must be female).
  • With opposing Team Captains approval, a team can also start with eight (8) players (3 must be female), but will receive an automatic outs when the missing female’s position in the lineup appears.

Player Eligibility

  • Players may only appear on one roster per season.
  • All players must be registered before participating.
  • Unregistered players are ineligible unless participating as a sub, which are required to sign a waiver before participation.

Section 4: Equipment

Official League Ball

  • Augusta Premier Kickball utilizes the official 10-inch yellow kickball for all league games.
  • The official game ball shall be the Champion Sports 10″ Yellow
  • Playground Kickball or league-approved equivalent.
  • League-issued game balls must be used during all regular season and playoff games.

Footwear

  • Metal cleats are prohibited.
  • Athletic shoes, molded cleats, and turf shoes are permitted.
  • Molded cleats or turf shoes are highly recommended.

Section 5: Field Dimensions

  • Bases: 60 feet apart
  • Pitching Rubber: 42 feet from home plate
  • Safety Base at First Base whenever possible
  • Outfield co-ed line/boundaries determined by field conditions

Section 6: Gameplay

Game Length

Games consist of:

  • Seven (7) innings
  • Or fifty (50) minutes
  • No new inning may begin after the time limit expires during the regular reason. Tied games will end in a tie. Only in playoffs will games go into extra innings.
  • The inning in progress will be completed.

Mercy Rule

  • To promote sportsmanship and maintain a positive player experience, a game shall be considered complete if a team leads by fifteen (15) or more runs after four (4) completed innings.
  • The winning team shall receive credit for the victory and all runs scored through the conclusion of the game.

Pitching Rules

  • Pitches must be rolled.
  • Excessive bouncing is prohibited.
  • The ball should remain reasonably flat and playable.
  • Umpires may issue warnings or call illegal pitches at their discretion.
  • For those who played in Augusta Sports League, the “Competitive Pitching Rule” applies for Augusta Premier Kickball.

Pitcher’s Possession Rule

  • Once the pitcher has possession of the ball and is actively returning to the pitching mound, time shall be considered called.
  • Runners who have not committed to advancing must return to their previous base.
  • Runners more than halfway to the next base may be awarded that base at the umpire’s discretion.
  • No additional advancement may occur after time has been called.

Kicking Rules

  • All kicks must occur behind home plate.
  • Bunting is prohibited.
  • Intentional double-kicks are outs.
  • Foul balls count as strikes.
  • Three strikes equal an out.
  • Four balls equal a walk.

Catcher’s Positioning & Interference

  • The catcher must position themselves behind the kicker and may not obstruct the kicker’s ability to legally kick the ball.
  • If field conditions make it unreasonable or unsafe to stand directly behind the kicker, the catcher may position themselves as close to directly behind the kicker as reasonably possible.
  • If catcher interference occurs, the umpire may award first base to the kicker and advance runners as necessary.

Section 6: Gameplay
